Managing Editor in our Custom Media division works with association clients and other staff to manage magazine editorial development and production. This includes researching/developing editorial content for magazines/social media/web and marketing efforts. Position includes strong client relations and accountability in producing high-value publications. As Managing Editor, this individual will write/edit/develop editorial content for magazines and other media, hiring/managing freelance writers and working collaboratively with other staff. Managing Editor also oversees the production of publications, working with designers and others to produce quality publications on schedule and on budget. This position also provides support for Stratton’s marketing efforts.
Key components of the job include:
• Writing, substantive editing
• Hire and work with freelancers for feature articles
• Write departments/columns.
• Proof read and coordinate production on pages and final proofs to ensure accuracy
• Manage production process to ensure publications are produced on schedule
• Oversee and manage publication budget to ensure strong financial performance while producing high-quality publications for clients
• Support social media development efforts of company and on behalf of clients.
Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years experience working in editorial/writing for magazines and other media
• College graduate; English, Journalism, preferred.
• Highly organized, able to work in small, busy office
• Proven ability to juggle multiple talks while keeping on schedule and adapt to shifting schedules/priorities.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, including researching/reporting skills; attention to detail/proofing skills.
• Experience in association publishing and for-profit publishing/business communications a plus.
• Experience in/knowledge of digital and social media applications and uses.
• Some marketing/promotional writing experience

Marketing & Publications Intern/Part-time Position

Hours: Part-time, 10-15 hrs/week, flexible; paid position

Company: Stratton Publishing & Marketing Inc. is a growing, specialized publishing, marketing, and e-media company that publishes magazines, e-newsletters, and other e-media for professional membership organizations. We are looking for a dynamic marketing/business/communications intern who wants to get great real-world experience in business/publishing/communications and marketing. The intern will help market listings in our twice annual facility design publication, plus other marketing/communication projects.
Job includes:
• Make telemarketing calls to architects to alert them to closing deadlines and encourage submitting a design project
• Write, format/design, and disseminate email promotions via Constant Contact to market paid listings by architects in the magazine.
• Research, write, and layout news and marketing stories for bimonthly e-newsletter.
• Update information for key contacts in Excel database.
• Review and update website and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter) with marketing news and information
• Assist with production of publication, including proofing, editing, writing.
Qualifications:
• Marketing, Business, Communications/Journalism/E-media student or part-time professional
• Outgoing, self starter, at ease making phone calls
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; some experience writing marketing/news copy
• Social media experience
• Basic knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook.
