As association publishers branch out to multiple social media outlets, it's important for them to continue to make member/readers' long-term engagement a top priority. Remember these three strategies as you expand your social media outreach:
1. Invite commentary. It's fine to announce your next issue, but encourage fans and followers to interact and share your content, too. Ask questions, discuss interviews, or share links to newly discovered Web sites. This will keep your community active and promote frequent visits.
2. Follow your followers. Expand onto sites where your audience already is. Learn what they care about, and what they respond to most. The more you know about your readers' social media habits, the easier it is to tailor and post compelling content.
3. Respond regularly. Make it a point to monitor and follow up on readers' questions in a timely manner, and to chime in when you can add value to a conversation. Regular interaction will further advance your pub as a must-have information resource.
